The Friday Food Ponderings here in Kansas City.

I was a bit surprised to learn that Kansas City made Frommer’s list of top destinations for 2012. To me, it has always been the place that was too far away from everything else unless you had the money to pay for a plane ticket. That said, things have improved over the years.
We’re best known for food, barbecue in particular. John Birmingham down Australia way in particular is fascinated with Arthur Bryant’s special formulations for the barbie. That said, I’ve got an offering that is a bit closer to the Northland Lofts. Here in North Kansas City itself we have Smokin’ Guns Barbecue.
The turkey sandwich is every bit as good as Guy Fieri of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives says it is. Trinity swears by the competition grade brisket. Tucked into a building down on Swift Avenue in the industrial part of town, it is probably the only choice for barbecue in North Kansas City.
On the other hand, sometimes you want something a little different. Sometimes you want a bit of strange, as a friend of mine used to say. Strange is on hand at Grinder’s down in the Crossroads.
Grinder’s has fast food done odd. Check the video out if you don’t believe me but it is a friendly place with good food and good service. Definitely worth checking out if one is a traveling man or woman who finds themselves in Kansas City.
More food links as I find them. Enjoy.
Respects,
