Crossposted from my facebook wall:
For the record, for future reference:
From time to time, I’ll make the mistake of getting entangled in an internet debate. In times past, I used to stay in the debate no matter what.
These days, frankly, I do not have either the time or the patience, especially in situations where I am absolutely convinced that everything I say will be minimized and ignored. I don’t have the time professionally and I really do not need the wear and tear on my temper.
If I say I’m disengaging from the debate, then I highly advise that you allow me to disengage. If you do not allow me to disengage or you TAG me with a continutation, I will consider that grounds for unfriending not just at FB, but everywhere.
One final note. I can have controversial discussions with my academic peers without any of the sort of grief that often comes along with similiar discussions in one aspect of the American Science Fiction Community. It is sad only because I expected the exact opposite to be the case when I first started teaching.
End of crosspost.
Additional note:
From time to time, when these debates start, folks will migrate to the Pondering Tree to continue them. Think very hard before posting. I will delete posts at will and I will block posters.
